Miia Kettunen

Miia Kettunen (kuvaaja/photographer: Marko Junttila)

I´m a multidisciplinary visual artist (MA) whose practice focuses on, but it´s not limited to working with environmental and community-related art as my works are extendedly site- and situation-specific by nature. My work is fueled by the consideration for ecological issues, the urge to study the less known or unseen, and generating unconventional dialogic paths with the communities innately merging into my works. Through my work, I often study initiations, intermediations, and interconnections – as a result, my artistic techniques are subject to evolving and transforming. Recently, I have focused on observing interconnective dialogues between humans and nature by using the combination of art and science in my practice. In my current works, I explore the use of components from environmental art, bioart, alternative photography processes, and media arts.

I´m a member of Artists´ Association MUU, a national interdisciplinary art organisation, Cross-art Collective Piste and Artists´ Association of Lapland.

“Miia´s work connects with the elemental in a uniquely tactile way, opening up pathways into worlds that are often inaccessible. The dialogue Miia creates through her practice allows for a shift in perspective; to understand landscapes and environments from hidden, internal spaces outwards, to views from a non-human angle.”
