Häkkinen & Vaarala – SUPERNOVA II

light heavier than iron

Our thoughts led us to think about space, the cosmos.

Space, enormous space to be, to be seen and to stop – float, drift, rest.

Supernova forms heavy metals, but its floating and shimmering form communicates warmth and lightness. Supernova is not contradictory in its essence, but challenges us to think of the world around us more as a fusion of different factors than as separations.

Our work SUPERNOVA – light heavier than iron conveys the warmth and light of the stars into the fading darkness of the beginning of the year. The work is a recycled textile installation realized using the methods of textile art, a textile mural that opens up to the viewer in layers, stopping to examine the views that open up from it.

Here in Rovaniemi theater, it is possible to create connections between the work and theater art. An urban textile mural meets stage art. We hope that we have built the work into a unifying space through which you can immerse yourself in possible worlds.

Supernova is a different kind of space than you are used to experiencing in the rigid, cramped and institution-based canon of high culture and art.
