Gallery Kellokas, from December 9 through January 24
In December and January Gallery Kellokas hosts an exhibition of Inka Hannula and Teemu Raudaskoski – an artist couple from Tampere. They have brought with them a selection of colourful and abstract co-paintings.
Hannula & Raudaskoski, both working on paintings and multi-art projects, have practiced co-painting since 2020. Painting the same canvas at the same time, they continue each other’s shapes and colours.
In the name of the exhibition, surprise refers to the process of creation, where nothing is planned in advance. Art is created in the moment by improvising and interacting with the other. The word reel describes all the shapes and movements painted on the round boards. In Finnish reels is “keloja” and it can also mean thoughts. Moreover, the name is a tribute to the Lappish nature that has inspired artists on their travels to the north, as “kelo” also means an old, dried-up tree, only found in old-growth forests.
When two visual artists paint the same work, the setting is already interesting in itself. What makes the co-paintings of Inka Hannula and Teemu Raudaskoski even more fascinating is the fact that they look like they were made by one person.
