Artist of the Month (July 2024) of the Artists’ Association of Lapland
The self-referential drawings depict artistic labor. Their creation was based on movements produced by the body. Kalle Lampela shook his box frames, inside which pieces of charcoal or graphite moved and left marks on the backing board, edges, and glass of the frame.
The drawings are self-referential in the literal sense, as they depict the technique by which they were made. The pieces of charcoal and graphite are an inseparable part of the work. They are located inside the frame box. By looking at the drawings, one can deduce how they were made. The self-referential drawings are images of labor.
Alongside the drawings, the exhibition includes an essay on work written by Lampela.
