Sara Ilveskorpi – Lumen akustiikka

Näyttely kulkee paikkasidonnaisen luomistyön reittejä Varsinais-Suomesta Käsivarren Lappiin. Sara Ilveskorpi tarkastelee, kuinka talviset havainnot ympäristöstämme valottavat identiteettiämme ja suhdetta pohjoiseen maisemaan työskennellen sekä kotitilallaan Kemiönsaarella että Suomen Biotaiteen Seuran Ars Bioarctica -residenssissä Kilpisjärvellä. Näyttely koostuu syanotypiatekniikan, videon ja keramiikan työstämisen kautta muotoutuneista sulamisen sekä kiteytymisen havainnoista ja niihin kietoutuvista kehollisista kokemuksista. Sana akustiikka on lumen (tai sen puutteen) resonointia subarktisen ja arktisen alueen sisäisenä äänenä elollisten ja elottomien olemuksissa. Ilveskorpi haluaa lähestyä lumen tuntua tutkivasti, liikkuen ekologian, materiaalin fysiologian, kulttuurihistorian ja estetiikan välimaastoissa. Sara Ilveskorpi (s.1970) on monialainen kuvataiteilija, taidepedagogi, väitöskirjatutkija ja agroekologi, joka asuu ja työskentelee Kemiönsaaressa Suomessa. Ilveskorven taide on usein paikkasidonnaista pyrkien vuorovaikutukselliseen toimintaan paikan monilajisessa ympäristössä. Kulttuurinen ja ekologinen kestävyys ovat keskeinen osa Ilveskorven praktiikkaa. Työskentelyssään hän keskittyy vastavuoroisuuden ja resilienssin tunnistamiseen sekä rakentamiseen. Sara Ilveskorpi on valmistunut kuvataiteilijaksi Turun Taideakatemiasta (AMK) ja taiteen maisteriksi (TaM) Aalto-yliopiston taiteen laitokselta. Tällä hetkellä hän tekee taiteellista väitöskirjatutkimusta Aalto-yliopistossa taiteen ja median laitoksella. Lumen akustiikka -näyttely on väitöskirjatutkimuksen taiteellisen arvioitava osa. Näyttelyä ja teosten valmistumista ovat tukeneet Suomen Kulttuurirahasto, Taiteen edistämiskeskus, Aalto-yliopisto ja Biotaiteen Seura.

Sara Ilveskorpi – The Acoustics of Snow

The exhibition follows paths of site-specific creation from Southwest Finland to Lapland, where Sara Ilveskorpi has explored what do wintery insights into our surroundings illuminate concerning our identity and our relationship with the northern environment? She has worked both at her homestead in Kimito Island and in the Ars Bioarctica residency of the Finnish Society of Bio Art in Kilpisjärvi. The exhibition comprises a series of observations regarding the processes of melting and crystallization, as presented through the cyanotype technique, video production, and ceramic processing. These elements are intricately intertwined with embodied experiences. Within this context, the term “acoustics” pertains to the resonance of snow—or, conversely, its absence—manifested as an internal sound characterizing both living and non-living entities within the subarctic and arctic regions. Sara Ilveskorpi engages with the sensory perception of snow from a methodologically investigative perspective, traversing the disciplines of ecology, material physiology, cultural history, and aesthetics.Sara Ilveskorpi (b. 1970) is a multidisciplinary visual artist, art educator, doctoral researcher, and agroecologist residing and working in Kimito Island, Finland. Ilveskorpi’s art is often site-specific, aiming for interactive engagement within the location’s multi-species environment. Cultural and ecological sustainability are central aspects of Ilveskorpi’s practice, with a focus on recognizing and building reciprocity and resilience. Sara Ilveskorpi graduated as a visual artist from the Turku Arts Academy and holds a master’s degree in art (M.A.) from Aalto University’s Department of Arts. Currently, she is conducting artistic doctoral research at Aalto University’s Department of Art and Media. The Acoustics of Snow exhibition is the evaluative artistic component of her doctoral research. The exhibition has been supported by the Finnish Cultural Foundation, the Arts Promotion Centre Finland, Aalto University, and the Finnish Society of Bio Art.
